Happy Halloween!

So… I thought in honor of today be Halloween and all, I decided to search YouTube for creepy ghost videos.  A lot of them were super fake… others were actually pretty scary.  Here is one that I think is kind of scary…

What do you think… real or fake?

Alright… here is one more!  Watch the mirror to the very right when the girl turns her head…

Good editing… or a ghost?!

10 Things To Do To Keep Busy At Work

I find myself having a lot of free time at work.  As soon as I’ve done what I need to do I sit around for what seems like hours trying to find ways to make the time pass.  Here are some of the best things I’ve found to “keep busy” at work

1. Pogo

Pogo.com offers a TON of really great/fun you can play online with other people or even play all by yourself.  My personal favorite is definitely Monopoly.  It’s fun, has great graphics, and takes up a good amount of time during my day.

2. Games.com

I love to play hearts on here.  It has WAY better graphics and game play then yahoo.com games, so that is why it play it there.  Also, you are able to personalize your own avatar and we all know how much fun that is!

3. Blog!

Blogging is awesome!  It’s a ton of fun and lets you keep up w/ family & friends via your own page.  There are soooo many websites where you can create your own blog.  I recommend WordPress.

4. Social Networking Websites

I find myself checking websites like twitter and Facebook a million times throughout the day.  There’s also the ever popular Myspace, I personally think it is way over rated tho!  There are a TON of other social networking websites that let you connect and keep up with old classmates, family members, co-workers, and even people that work in your same industry.  One I recently discovered is LinkedIn.  Check it out!

5. YouTube

Everyone has heard of YouTube.  But… there are really more things on there then you could ever imagine.  You have the capabilites to catch up on your favorite shows and even watch your favorite commercials.  It’s awesome.

6. Ebay

Maybe there is a certain something you’ve been eying at the store, but it’s a little out of your price range.  Why don’t you try to find it on Ebay!  Seriously, you can find just about ANYTHING on ebay, it’s awesome.

7. Find New Apps For Your Phone

This one doesn’t just apply to iPhone users.  I was playing with my sisters LG Venus and discovered that she has some pretty cool apps available on her phone!  I really had no idea.  Bored?  Look for cool new apps for your phone, useful or not!

8. Flickr

Flickr is an awesome website where you can upload all your photos to!  But wait!  It’s SO much more than that!  You can edit them, share them, tag them, as well as view millions of other people’s unbelievably awesome photography.  Check it out here!

9.Put Your Webcam To Use

Ok, so this one you can really only use if you either A.) don’t get embarrassed easily or B.) can’t be seen by anyone else in your office.  Not only are webcams great for video chat, but you can also use it as a camera!  Yes!  Take goofy pictures of yourself on your webcam and edit them to look crazy!

10. Clean Up!

And no, I’m definitely not talking about your desk of your office.  I’m talking about your computer!  Get rid of unwanted/un needed files and improve the performance on your computer.  I did this the other day and I couldn’t believe how much crap I had on my computer I really didn’t need, and I definitely noticed a difference in my computer’s performance.  So clean up!  ;)

External Hard Drive!

Finally!  I have been bugging and bombarding everyone’s ears around me about how I so badly want and need an external hard drive.  I have been doing SO SO SO much stuff on my computer lately that it’s performance and speed has been just about cut in half.

I look at this and think I have a lot of free space…. but my computer definitely does not!  BUT if you noticed above it says Local Disk (G:) and 107 GB Free!  That’s because I FINALLY got my external hard drive!  So, I hope my computer is happy about that and starts being a little nicer to me.  The five million restarts a day get to be a bit annoying.

Isn’t it beautiful?!  So this morning I’m in the process of moving a ton of my things on to there.  Not only are there going to be obvious benefits with the performance of my computer, but also some definite safety advantages as well.  About 2 weeks ago a sneaky little invisible trojan virus made it’s way on to my computer.  No, that was not a spelling error.  INVISIBLE TROJAN is right.  Yeah, I didn’t know they existed either!  It took me almost 8 hours to get rid of it.  It was crazy and my computer was going absolutely insane all day!  But thank GOD I eventually got it off.

[ But... once I get my Macbook I won't have to worry about those sneaky Trojans anymore!  :) ]

So… now that all my beloved files are going to be on my external hard drive, they are going to be safe.  Unless of course another virus decides to make its way on there… well them I’m just screwed.

Anyways.  I’m super excited and can’t wait to have a “speedy” (if u can call it that) computer again!

Applications Update

Those are the latest screen shots from my iPhone.  I have downloaded a few more apps since I last posted screen shots, so I thought I’d share them and give a little review.

Page 1

-all the general stuff, nothing too exciting.

Page 2

- Evernote: I really haven’t used it.  I heard so many great things about it, but I guess maybe it just isn’t for me?

- Ebay: It’s pretty basic.  Also, you can’t pay for things through the application.  That’s kind of annoying.

- Facebook:  The update is really nice and a lot better.  I’m able to see a lot more things and there are way more features.  Thank God for the update.

- Flixshop: my savior.  I use it for all my grocery shopping.  It’s so nice and convenient.  Carlos thinks it is easier to just write things down on paper, but I definitely disagree!

- WordPress: VERY useful.  I can write on my blog whenever a thought pops into my head.  It’s awesome.

- Shazam: I haven’t used this as much as I thought I would.  I guess my music knowledge is pretty kick ass!

- Eventful: Only used it 2 times.  I wanted to see when AC/DC was coming into town.

- Where: I wrote a previous post about map apps.  My opinion on that is definitely still the same.

- NY Times: I look at this when I get bored.

- iDoodle2lite: I had fun with this while as I was camping as well as on the car ride up there.  I’m flying home to California for the weekend so I’m probably going to have some fun with it on the plane!

- Hangman: Pretty fun, it’s really easy though.  They really need some harder words.

- Celeb Gossip: I use this almost everyday.  It gives you headlines from the top gossip sites which is really cool.  I recommend this for anyone who loves celeb gossip as much as I do!

- BubbleWrap: I annoy people with this.

- Pandora: I really haven’t used this that much.  I’m on my computer so much that I haven’t really had a chance to use it.

- Flashlight: I was hoping it would be brighter… it’s ok.

Page 3

- Sol Free: A good version of solitaire that offers many versions of the game.  It’s fun.

- Twitterific: LOVE IT!  I downloaded just about every app there was for twitter and this one smoked all the rest.  It’s easy to use and read.  I use it all the time!

- PayPal: I don’t know why I downloaded this.  I don’t even think I have opened it once! lol

- iScopes: Very cool.  It has a great layout too and looks really nice.  It offers a TON of different types of horoscopes and readings and all kinds of things.

- PAC-MAN lite: Way fun!  I was hoping that I would get to use the accelerometer… but no.

- Pumpkin: I downloaded it to celebrate Halloween!  It’s fun to scare people with it in the dark!

- dBeer: Totally pointless, but I can pretend to drink a glass of beer.  It really just shows how awesome iPhone technology is.

- Carve 3D: I get to carve pumpkins on my iPhone!  It’s fun but kind of hard to use.

- FootballLite: I use to play this game in high school, this game is fun and keeps me busy.

- Lightsaber: I love this.  I pretend to hit Carlos and he gives me the weirdest looks ever.

- Barcodes: BIG disappointment.  You can’t really use it because when you try to take pictures using the application they come out awful.  You have to take pictures and then upload them through the application, and mine still wasn’t really working.  Huge bummer.

- Take Me To My Car: AWESOME!  I will never lose my car again.  It’s easy to use and looks great.

- Easy Relax: I see what they were trying to do with this.  I’m not really the “relaxing” kind of person, so this wasn’t for me.  It could be cool if I was into that sort of thing…

- GhostPop: This is fun.  I play this when I’m sitting around doing nothing.  It has cool graphics.

- Remote: I FINALLY downloaded this.  Everyone has it, and now I finally do to.  I’m going to put it to use too.  The only thing is it’s a little slow.

- Sudoku: I love this game.  I play it all the time and have for years now.  Love it on the iPhone!

So… there is my application update/review.  Hopefully it’s helpful!  Also, if you have any recommendations, let me know!

My Macbook Dilemma

Ever since I got my iPhone and fell in love I decided that I now need all things Apple.  My plan is to get a Macbook.  However, as of October 14th, Apple released the new Macbook, which has now put in me in the dilemma I am currently facing.  I’ve been searching all over the internet trying to find where I could get the best deal.  Ebay is in the lead by far. It seems as though people are trying to sell anything they can to get a couple extra bucks due to the economy.  I am included in those people.  I tore my room apart searching for old cell phones and other gadgets that had some worth and sold them on craigslist and ebay.  My plan is to reap the benefits of those selling their Macbooks dirt cheap in order to get that extra couple dollars.

I have found Macbooks that are only a few months old selling for $600 and less.  That is an absolute steal!  I also found Macbook Pro’s for $800 and even a couple Macbook Air’s for $1000.  The new Macbooks I found on there are at least $1200.

So, here is my dilemma.  Do I get the “old macbok” and save myself a couple hundred dollars or do I splurge a little and get the new one?

What do you think?

I JUST learned how to make ringtones for my iPhone!

How exciting!  Now I don’t have to give up $1 to iTunes everytime I want a cool ringtone… this is awesome.  I’m going to share my new knowledge with you…

Here are the instructions for Windows Vista with iTunes 8.0.1

  1. Select the song you want.  Right-click, and select “Get Info”
  2. Click on the “options” tab.
  3. You will two boxes labeled start time and stop time.  Check those boxes and enter the time in the song where you want your ringtone to start and stop.  It shouldn’t be over 40 seconds long.  Click OK.
  4. Right click on the one you just selected and click on “Create AAC Version”.
  5. In the left hand side of the iTunes menu you should see it say “converting”.
  6. After it’s done, right-click on the song you created and select “show in windows explorer”.
  7. A window will pop up showing the song you just created.  Right-click and select “rename”.  You need to change the file from m4a to m4r.  A window will pop up, click yes.
  8. Double click on the song.  It should start playing in iTunes and automatically go under “ringtones”.

Things that could make this not work:

1. Your iTunes might not have a “create AAC version” selection, only a “create mp3 version”.  This is the problem I had and finally figured out how to fix it.  You need to change the import settings in your iTunes.  Go to iTunes and click “edit” then “preferences”.  Under the General tab, click on “import settings”.  Where it says Import Using: change it to AAC Encoder.  This should fax that problem.

2. Your folder options are not right.  This is probably the most common one, but is super easy to fix.  Click the start button and where it says search type folder options.  Click folder options and go to the View tab.  About 7 check marks down it says “Hide extensions for known file types”.  Make sure that box is unchecked, and click ok.

It is a pretty simple thing!  If anyone needs any help or is having any trouble at all please feel free to ask for some help!

Rock & Roll Paint-A-Thon

Saturday morning, my sister and I participated in the annual Rock & Roll Paint-A-Thon put on by the Valley of the Sun volunteer organization.  Over 5500 people participated in the event this year and painted around 350 houses.  The purpose of this event is to paint house for low-income, elderly, or disabled people that are unable to do it themselves.  We had so much fun!  Here are a few pictures I took from the event…

Overall, it was definitely a lot of fun and something I would definitely do again. I think I’m actually going to check out some of the other volunteer events going on in the valley and do some more!
