To 3G or not to 3G, that is the question.

The more and more I hear about friends finally upgrading their phones to the 3G iPhone, the more it makes me think.  Should I, or should I not?  Lets look at the positives shall we?

1. It definitely has a much cooler/better/improved look.

2. It’s much lighter.

3.    …

That’s really all there is.  Of course there is the fact that it runs on America’s fastest 3G network, but I have t-mobile, so my unlocked iPhone won’t be using that network anyways.  After doing some extensive research on the unlocking of the 3G, I discovered something alarming.  Apparently when you upgrade your 3G iPhone to 2.2 firmware, it also upgrades your baseboard and locks your phone.  Apple did this on purpose.  They don’t want people unlocking their phones anymore.  I think this is stupid, think of the millions of customers more they could have if the iPhone could be used on any network?!  Everyone would get one.  Now, I don’t know of course how much AT&T is paying Apple for that exclusive contract, so maybe it’s worth it to them.  I don’t know.

So back to the point, is it worth it?  Should I upgrade and get a 3G or stick with my precious little 1st gen iPhone?

Make Your World More Juicy

Juicy Couture that is!  Severe boredom hit me square in the face at work today, so I thought I would try and make the time go by faster by exploring new arrivals from one of my favorite brands Juicy Couture.  Little did I know that they are just about at Hello Kitty status with having every single item you can think of covered in their logo and tweeked just a little to make it their own.  Let me share with you my findings:

Now, there are a few things everyone knows juicy has.  Their signature velour tracksuits, handbags, perfumes, jewelry, and clothes.  But… what about all the other things?  Trust me.  There are tons.

First off, we have the classic game of Monopoly, Juicy style.

You can get the classic edition at target for $25, while the Juicy Couture edition is going to cost you $58!

With Christmas just around the corner, gift wrap is at the top of the shopping list right now.  I personally usually go to Target or the Dollar Store and get the cheapest but cutest stuff I can find.  Why spend a lot of money on something that is just going to get ripped to shreds anyways?

Apparently not everyone thinks that way because you can get the ultra chic Juicy Couture wrapping paper for $40!  It does, however, come with some awesome metallic markers, ribbon, and little heart shaped gift tags.

They even have something for all of us that love our sacred iPhones.  For anyone who ever wished the could dress their phone in designer apparel, your dream has come true.  Meet the Juicy Couture iPhone cases!

You even have some options.  You can get the leather case with the strap to carry it around it, and then you can also have the jelly protective case in 3 different colors so you can match it to your outfit.  Super!  The jelly cases are $55 for the three, and the leather case is $75.

Who wants to eat some heart shaped couture cookies?  Juicy Couture seriously makes anything possible.  You can get your Juicy cookie jar and cookie cutters for $58!

There is plenty more stuff.  You can check out ebay or the Juicy Couture website to discover more fun finds!

A 21st Birthday With No Alcohol

Quite the cliche isn’t it?  Instead of waking up this morning and exercising my new rights to legally being allowed to drink alochol, I grabbed a vitamin water.  My lunch consisted of many snacks with…. water.  Why might you ask?  Why on earth would I be drinking non-alcoholic beverages on my ever so special birthday?!

Well, there is a bun in the oven!  Yep, I’m pregnant!  Such exciting news.  I’ve known for about 5 weeks now, but I wanted to wait a little while before I spread the word.  So now, for those of you that follow me on twitter or are my friend on facebook, this may explain the constant being sick thing.

As of now, I am exactly 11 weeks along.  My estimated due date is July 8th, 2009.  I don’t know the sex yet, but there is a very small chance I could find out at my 12 week ultrasound on Christmas Eve.  Not a very good chance, but still a chance.  So… that’s that!  haha.

My blog isn’t going to switch directions and turn into a play by play of my new pregnant life, but I will include updates every now and then or post exciting news if I happen to hear some.

Even though my 21st birthday is going to be alcohol free, I couldn’t be happier!

Time For Some Change

I got bored today with my site and decided to change around the colors of my website.  I really really really would like to do a custom header, but I’m not so sure how!  If anyone has any experience with that or could direct me somewhere it would be most appreciated!!!

By the way… what do you think of the new colors?

Apple Earbuds … It’s Time To Go

Seriously.  How many people do you know that own a pair of these?

Just about everyone.  So, it’s time to be original and give your earbuds some personality!  There are a few ways to do this.  The obvious: buy a new pair.  But… with the way the economy is right now, why not save a little money?!  Create your own unique pair!  Not only will you save some money doing this, but you will also be guaranteed that no one else will have the same earbuds as you.

Arts and crafts aren’t for everyone.  If it’s not really your thing, you have other options.  I discovered these things called budclicks.  I have never heard of them before, but maybe they have been here all along and I have been totally oblivious to them?  I don’t know.  Anyways,  they’re pretty much just like a little logo button thing that clicks on to the outside of your earbuds.  Check it out…

Awesome!  They have a ton of different ones to choose from, there’s seriously something for everyone.  The best part is they are only $6.99!  So go on and get a pair or three.

Chic vs Geek

So after doing a little reviewing of my own site, I’ve included plenty of geek, but not enough chic.  I am CHIC blonde geek you know!  So, I decided it’s time to add a little more chic to this geek.

This post is mostly geared towards the laides, and then of course the men who wear makeup.

I love mascara.  Absolutely love it.  Obsessed maybe.  After almost 7 years of wearing makeup you would think I know exactly what I like, what works, and what doesn’t.  Well, I didn’t until recently.  It was a boring Saturday afternoon so I decided to explore the wonderful world of Ulta to waste some time.  I am a huge fan of the cosmetic brands Smashbox and Mac, but their mascaras just weren’t working for me anymore, and Ulta doesn’t even sell Mac products.  I decided to ask one of the lovely employees who seemed to know exactly what I was looking for and directed me straight to Too Faced Cosmetics display.  I didn’t know it at the time, but what I was about to buy would be life changing.

I have always had an issue with mascara.  I want this longest darkest thickest lashes you can possibly have.  Something like…. this.

Ok, so maybe not quite that extreme, but you get the point.  Every week it seemed I’d apply a new type of mascara to my lashes, just to be disappointed again and again.  But not this week.  Not this very special week when I went to Ulta and bought Too Faced lash injection in pitch black.  I was skeptical of course, but all my worries went out the door once I brought that huge brush up to my thirsty lashes.  It was like a dream come true.  After applying just a few coats, my lashes turned into the most magnificent things I had ever seen.  From that moment on, I was hooked.  My endless hunt for the perfect mascara finally came to an end.

So to anyone else out there who is experiencing the same thing I went through, take my advice.  Head to your nearest upscale cosmetics store ($19.50 @ sephora, ulta, nordstrom) and pick this stuff up.  It’s amazing and will change your makeup life forever!

ATTN: MALE READERS- this could be a great gift for your girlfriend/fiance/wife!

2.2 Update and Why YouTube is great!

I spent some time this week contemplating whether or not to update my iPhone firmware from 2.1 to 2.2.  I heard a few rumors that updating to 2.2 could reverse the unlock on my iPhone, and I didn’t want that to happen!  I read up on the apple website on why 2.2 was so great, and I decided it was worth it.  The new features available with google maps are way cool, so I had to have it!  This is where YouTube becomes an important part of the process.

When I first thought about getting an iPhone, I wanted to learn more about the jailbreaking and unlocking of it.  I have T-Mobile so it would be something I would have to do.  I spent hours upon hours watching video after video of people unlocking and jailbreaking their phones in all different kinds of ways.  I decided I was ready, and that I was going to do this whole thing myself.  So when it was time to update to 2.2, YouTube was the place to go!  After watching a few videos, I realized that updating to 2.2 was no different then any other update, I just needed to make sure to download the newest version of quickpwn.  And bam!!!  My iPhone is now running on 2.2 firmware!

There are a few things I noticed right away after updating that I was really happy about.  Number one, downloading apps is WAY faster!  Sometimes it would take forever, but not anymore.  That was exciting.  Number two, when I updating applications the app would stay in the same I had put it rather than installing it’s newly updating version at the very last spot in all my screens.  That was annoying to me.  I hated having to constantly rearrange my applications.  Number 3, street view on google maps!!!  That is awesome.  I kind of think it’s totally pointless and almost a little bit scary, but still way cool.  So for those of you that haven’t update to 2.2 yet, I suggest you do!

Flip Video… not so much.

I was all about getting the Flip Video camera, I really was.  But after I spent the weekend browsing the electronics departments of every store I could think of, I definitely changed my mind.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s a pretty cool camera.  It’s small and convenient to carry around with just in case of that once in a lifetime moment that absolutely must be caught on camera.  But is it really practical?  Not so much for me.  I want to buy a new video camera to capture the precious little moments that are going to be taking place in my life not too far down the road, and with the screen size of the Flip, it’s not the best choice for me.  There are plenty of other cameras out there that are plenty small that I can easily carry around in my purse with a screen at least twice as big as that of the Flip.  Another thing I didn’t like about the Flip is that you can barely zoom with it at all!  Good luck trying to film anything even remotely far away.  Not gonna happen.  I’m so happy I went out to the stores and actually played with it and compared it to some other cameras, otherwise I would have made a HUGE mistake.

This JVC camera was one of my favorites, and a great deal at only $349.99 at Best Buy!  More expensive then the Flip, but a much more practical choice for me.  And it has 30GB of build in Harddrive, so I can definitely record more than an hour!

My advice for anyone who is in the market for a new video camera and is interested in the Flip, go out and play with it first!  I had my mind set on getting one, but after actually using it, I discovered it wasn’t the one for me.

How is technology effecting us?

I’m taking a Health and Wellness class in school right now, and it has brought up some very interesting things.  Technology has a huge effect on our lives, but in more ways than just the obvious.  It sucks to think about, but when does too much technology become a bad thing?

This idea was brought to me when I was learning about the obesity problem in America.  In the United States, 127 million adults are overweight.  60 million of them are obese and 9 million are severely obese.  That’s around 65% of the population!  In the 70’s, 46% of Americans were obese.  So, 20% more of our population has become obese in 30 years.  Clearly, something has to be going on, and I think the most obvious thing would be the advances in technology.

We are able to do so many things without even needing to get up from the couch.  We can talk on the phone, surf the internet, do homework, buy clothes, order groceries to be delivered to our home, etc.  The only thing we can’t do (that I know of at least!) is use the restroom or get some food.  Actually I take that back.  At Pizza Hut you now have the ability to place your order for delivery online.  You don’t even have to pick up the phone to get a pizza delivered to your house!

Technology has a huge effect on relationships between people.  I can catch up with my friends I haven’t spoken with in years without actually speaking to them.  Websites like Facebook and Myspace allow us to find old classmates or childhood friends.  Obviously, this is a really amazing thing.  I was able to find my best friend from my early childhood that I haven’t seen or spoken too in 12 years!  And now, I still haven’t spoken to her.  We were able to completely catch up on our lives and communicate through wall posts, messages, and email.  Don’t get me wrong, it was amazing to speak with her again and see all her recent pictures, but I still haven’t actually spoken to her in 12 years.  Now I know this isn’t always the case.  With another friend of mine we exchanged phone numbers and actually spoke on the phone, but I think that is a pretty rare happening.

Text messaging has replaced talking on the phone.  Well almost.  I personally rather have a conversation through text messaging then on the phone, and I know for a fact I’m not the only person that feels this way.  It’s easy and convenient, and if I don’t want to respond to something or I’m in the middle of doing something, I can respond whenever I feel like it.  It also allows us to “talk” to people when we normally couldn’t.  I’m able to communicate with friends and family during meetings, work, and class; times when I wouldn’t normally be able to talk to anyone outside of my classroom.  It’s great.  But, does it also have negative side effects?  Yes.  I know I have missed plenty of important information during class because I was too busy texting with a friend or surfing the internet on my phone.  Even my parents know how to text, and they are pretty old!  So are there a lot of good things that come out of this “silent communication”?  Definitely.  But there are also plenty of negatives as well.

So this brings me back to my original question, when does too much technology become a bad thing?  Think about it, people don’t even need computers now to surf the internet, I have a safari internet browser on my iPhone.  Could this 20% increase of obese Americans be related to the mass amounts of technology available to us?  Is it impacting our relationships with friends and family?

btw- I hope I am not offending anyone with this, just something that was brough to my attention and made me think a little!
